PTFE *
PTFE, or polytetrafluoroethylene, is a high-performance fluoropolymer commonly used in architectural membrane structures. In building applications, PTFE typically refers to a fiberglass fabric substrate coated with PTFE. The fiberglass provides structural strength. PVDF *
PVDF is also known as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). PVDF membranes or PVDF fabrics are, like PTFE, composite materials consisting of a base fabric coated with PVDF resin. The base fabric is typically polyester or fiberglass, providing structural support, while the PVDF coating delivers surface protection. ETFE *
ETFE, or Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene, differs from PTFE and PVDF in that it is a non-fabric membrane made directly from ETFE resin. In architecture, it is typically used as a single-layer film or in multi-layer inflated cushion systems, without the need for a structural base fabric. With glass-like light transmission, very low weight, strong self-cleaning performance, and good recyclability, ETFE is widely used in permanent building applications.
PE *
Polyethylene (PE) is a thermoplastic polymer produced through the polymerization of ethylene. PE fabric is a composite membrane with a mesh core sandwiched between two PE layers.
